Critique and Feedback
The criti was a really good way of exploring other peoples concepts and sharing our thoughts and ideas about each others work. It is useful because other people's feedback generate more concepts because they are looking at it from another perspective. It gives the idea another angle to work with. We all offered each other feedback and I enjoyed giving out constructive criticism and acknowledging design that I like.
I presented my experimentation and gave a brief history of HMV so that everyone saw my work in context. Most people were drawn towards the type inside the rings as they liked the vinyl concept. However, they suggested I experiment with a sans-serif type as well because I haven't given it a chance and the harshness of Bodoni's serif may be too hard hitting. They also mentioned the type floating inside the circle. It was suggested that I should experiment with using lines, in the same style as the contour rings, to still keep the vinyl concept but make the logo stronger.
I asked about what colour scheme I should use because at the moment it is monochromatic. I got fairly mixed feedback as some people wanted me to add a range of colours and some liked the monochromatic style. We discussed whether I should keep the iconic pink from the original branding. It may not work with my concept but it would be a shame to lose such an iconic colour palette because people associate the fuchsia pink to HMV, even without the type.
I think I have produced successful concepts but visually they haven't been strong. This is due to sticking to a digital route and not pushing mediums such as ink, paint and print as this will allow my fine art background to come forward and benefit my concept generation.
Overall I am pleased with the feedback I got and I can now begin to push my concepts further.
