Question the lack of individuality and personality in automated design in order to encourage designers to produce something that physically exists:
- How can I keep creative culture in a constantly evolving age?
- How can I keep personality in design?
Enhance graphic design practice 'manually'
The limitations of AI can only access information from the internet, lacking originality and personality. Hands on creative processes such as printing, photography and textiles can all be adapted and manipulated to produce unique outcomes that screen can not replicate. Showcasing these unique techniques using an App or website will inspire creatives to apply these innovative techniques to their own practice.
For example:
- Adding flour to inks to add texture
- Dark room - Lots of potential to manipulate the images using different exposing methods
- Rubbings
To achieve my concept, I can make the application social so creatives can photograph their work and post images and instructions on how to create the desired effect:
- Visual interface - Make it engaging
- Reflect the natural characteristics of hand made processes through texture
- Video
- Step by step guide
Working practically requires both hands so when someone is learning a new technique, they can say 'stop' and 'pause' without having to put whatever they're doing down to pause the video.
Crit
Explained my concept in relation to promoting personality and innovation of design in digital era.
- Immediately people thought my concept contradicted itself as I am trying to encourage creatives to be practical, however the content is behind a screen.
- A lot of the techniques and processes won't be easily available for a designer. For example, using a dark room or print room is hard to find and also expensive.
- It was suggested that I should provide the target audience with an incentive to use the app
- Suggested that I should include materials and cost of each technique
- Instructional videos would be beneficial and my crit group liked the idea of voice control so that both hands are always available.
- Suggested that I should watch Made You Look
- I haven't created a solution, I am creating a problem
- Have levels of practice - Beginner, intermediate, pro
The crit has provided me with a mix of positive and negative feedback which suggests my concept needs reconsidering.
