Background
Jan Van Toorn and Wim Crouwel are two heavyweights of design who take apposing approaches to design practice; subjective / objective. Both designers were asked to create promotional calendars for printing companies and galleries which provided freedom to exercise their design principles within a commercial context.
Rick Poynor: ’A perfect playground for printers and designers, calendars allow them to show the scope of their expertise.’
Organisational tools such as a diary or a calendar have all moved away from the printed platform onto portable devices, however it can be hard to track the progression of the year and gain a better understanding of the time frame for events and deadlines.
Limitations such as screen size
It is hard to find a well designed calendar that boasts both aesthetic and objective characteristics.
