Despite experimenting with a range of compositions considering shape and typography, I resorted to one of the original weaving outcomes because of the balance between black and white. This provided a platform that I could subtly adapt and imbed typography into.
The cover successfully stands out over previous covers due to the ambiguity of the overall composition. This will put me in a good position in the competition because the contrasting colour scheme and negative space make the composition eye catching and intriguing. The feedback that I received gave me confidence to submit an ambiguous design because people thought it was still objective, in the sense that the audience can read and understand the key information, and also stands out against many of the formal responses.
The concept has informed both the front and back of the book cover which creates a cohesive style. Bolton was a successful typeface to use because it is legible on a range of scales due to its thick structure which allowed me to use it for the front, side and back.
The decision to carry the black from the cover over to the spine was influenced by the fact that it creates fluidity and consistency. I made the back of the book white in order to create balance and even more contrast with the front cover. It is also easier to read and digest copy that is presented on a white background, as opposed to another colour, because the contrast makes it easier to establish the forms of the characters.

Successfully submitted my design! By making sure that I abide to these entry requirements will increase the chance of my design being considered because I have demonstrated a professional awareness. Although I wasn't able to ISO colour manage, I made sure it was effective to 300dpi and was in CMYK.
