COLLABORATE
'The space between people working together is filled with conflict, friction, strife, exhilaration, delight, and vast creative potential' - Bruce Mau, The incomplete manifesto for growth
I created a short presentation for the collaborative side to responsive which is structured to inform creatives from other creative disciplines about my practice, creative inspiration and the brief's I am interested in tackling.
Format for presentation: 1280 x 720 pixels, 72dpi, JPEG
Slide 1: 4 images of my work that best represent my practice to other designers
I chose projects based on the projects I enjoyed the most and demonstrated an array of techniques and processes. As the animators and illustrators will be looking for strong typography, I made sure I provided them with examples of my typesetting abilities across print. The images also demonstrate the diverse techniques and processes which will compliment my preference for manual processes. Although I have no images of digital solutions the audience should get an idea of my style which can be translated from print to screen.
Slide 2: 4 images of professional work I admire
A lot of the images are taken from graphic design which makes the slide type heavy, however it informs creatives on the style of work I prefer. Taking influences such as fine art lead me straight to Matisse who has always been an inspiration to me in terms of shape, colour and composition. I took a lot of inspiration from advertising campaigns from design studios such Modern Construct and Eike Koenig who's practice I look up to. The heavy typographic overlap of texture and shape is forward thinking and innovative. I included the name of the designer/studio/artist along with supporting context so that the audience could note it for futher research and get a better understanding of design practice.
Slide 3: Name the briefs I am interested in working on AND whether I want an animator or illustrator
Clearly stated the D&AD and YCN briefs that I would like to take forward into the next stage. Considering my previous research into the Monotype brief, an illustrator would be appropriate in order to gain visual inspiration for adaptive typefaces. I threw a slight wild card by submitting for the Fur For Animals brief because it is a topic that is prominent in the fashion industry. Having both an animator and an illustrator would provide combined skills that would help to produce a campaign that could reach a high potential. Although I haven't explored the brief, I feel it has potential to be an exciting project because I already know a bit about the brand history. It would be an exciting project to work on with an illustrator and animator because the brief is compatible with all three disciplines.
This process helped me to reflect and identify the briefs that I enjoyed producing solutions for which increased my understanding of my own practice. I made sure that I considered what the Animators and Illustrators would like to see in the context of the collaboration briefs, therefor I emphasised my typesetting and editorial focus.
Unfortunately my slides weren't shown even though I had added them with the specifications.
