After speaking to my tutor and explaining my concept on what I've learnt from my research, it was fed back to me that my concept gave my publication no real purpose. The aim of the brief is to use my sourced images to create an interesting publication highlighting the use of typography from a specific location.
Tracing each letter removes the type from its context, however it can never be completely accurate and therefor doesn't properly replicate the typeface. To overcome this, I aim to use my photographs to highlight the diverse use of typography. I can edit the images to make the content more engaging, but focus on the typography in a diverse culture. Bristol is proud of its creative culture so I aim to explore it's diverse culture through their use of typography. This will be of interest to Bristolian's as I can explore different locations around Bristol and also inform the audience on it's creativity. My IN/OUT concept research can feed into this concept, particularly with the production methods that I have researched but I will aim to include more information on Bristol itself.
So far my concept was aimed at designers and followers of visual culture which is a very broad and vague audience. However, publications on New York and famous cities around the world are still popular even though people haven't been there. This is because it is famous for its shops/typography/culture/etc.
Reconsidering my concept has been a set back in my progress as I have produced work that may no longer be relevant, however it has allowed me to focus my publication for commercial use and I now have a solid platform to work from.
