OUGD603 - Branding and Identity - Future Humans

Collaborating with Ste Crowther - Worked together in the past so we know each others strengths and weaknesses. This will allow us to identify a solution based on the broad range of skills.

We identified a common interest in electronic music and decided to collaborate on a music related brief.

Brainstormed some problems within the music industry:
  • Touring is expensive for musicians
  • So much talent and variety
  • Streaming services are making it hard for musicians to make money
Research:
91 Percent of All Artists Are Completely Undiscovered

More artists' online than ever before
therefore an online platform would gain the most exposure within the music industry.

Ste and I reflected on our initial ideas and came out with the concept of providing a supporting platform the vast amount of undiscovered artists to gain exposure and discover new artists.

Brief

Collaboration with Stephen Crowther at Leeds Arts University, level 6 graphic design.

Problem

With talented artist struggling to enter the music industry, how can we address this issue and help them become more exposed?

Summary

We identified that artists starting out in the music industry are struggling vastly with exposure and there are some very talented individuals that require that help to be seen. With the music industry worth $130 billion globally, how can we help UK artists be seen to a further extent, helping them be picked up by labels or other producers. The challenge will be to design and create a brand and service to improve the likeliness of artists being seen by their intended audience. The intended outcome must show how the final solution combats the issue.

Considerations

We will have to consider other organisations that currently help artists into industry and their methods of doing so. Considerations to audience will be key to finding out styles that relate directly to them.

Requirements

The requirements will be to work collaboratively with my partner so that we can work on ideas to create an outcome that relates directly to the brief. We will be required to meet every Wednesday to discuss the brief as well as further unplanned meetings to ensure we meet our deadline and are notifying each other of our developments.

Audience

Audience for the brief will be a younger generation due to this being the most difficult age to understand how to approach moving into the music industry. This will primarily be 17-30 year olds of all genders.

Deliverables

A produce, service or system to help the issue.
Mockups of the final outcome to showcase the solution.

Deadline: Friday 27th April 2018 // 10.00am
